Program Notes by José Elizondo:
Elizondo
created this piece at the request of his friend Benedict Klöckner for a
festival in Germany. The composition was inspired by Baron Joseph von
Eichendorff’s poem Mondnacht, and the image
of moonlight shimmering on the surface of a calm, flowing river. The piece
reflects how some people can radiate positivity, beauty, and calmness, even
when faced with life’s challenges and complexities.
The
serene river, lit by the soft glow of the moon, symbolizes resilience—its
tranquil surface contrasting with the movement beneath. Musically, the
piano’s continuous flow represents the river’s current, while the melody
above it captures the sparkle of moonlight and stars on the water’s surface.
