Program Notes by José Elizondo:

"Cherry Blossoms" is a lyrical and heartfelt reflection on the themes of resilience, grace, and kindness. During his journeys to Japan and Washington, DC, the composer has been profoundly moved by the delicate beauty of cherry blossoms. These gentle flowers seem to thrive against all odds, enduring the harsh winters that challenge their trees in both regions. Even as spring arrives, the cherry trees often face unpredictable weather—strong winds and chilling temperatures. Yet, despite these trials, the blossoms unfold, offering their fragile splendor to brighten the lives of those who admire them.

These cherry blossoms inspire a poignant parallel with the human spirit. Just as cherry blossoms bloom with quiet strength, some individuals navigate life’s challenges with grace, compassion, and unshakable resilience. They face difficulties yet manage to remain kind-hearted and positive, enriching those around them. Similarly, there are people with extraordinary gifts—talent, intellect, creativity—who use their skills with humility and empathy, creating beauty and uplifting the world through their actions and presence. The cherry blossoms remind us of the remarkable strength and kindness that can thrive in each of us, even in the face of life’s storms.
